Whenever I walk into a store, I make sure my hand are visible so I don’t have to deal with the bullshit.
lol especially if I’m at a Korean/Asian market. I’ve been followed there more than any other place… -__-“
Yup. Any stores owned by Koreans and Chinese, I always make sure to whip out my wallet so they don’t think I’m going to steal shit. I do it when I’m in Buckhead too. Sometimes I get followed around in white stores.
Luckily in hijab they’re more likely to think I’m there to bomb something. It’s like they’re confused; black and Muslim?!
and I’m like astaghfirullah that is haram I am glad I got rid of her

There are so few vegan blogs I can follow. The ones I do follow, I love, but animal cruelty is just so triggering to me. Just can’t take it.
I actually love cherry tomatoes with peaches and strawberries and apples. With some mangoes maybe…
But I understand where this is coming from and how I have ridiculous taste in food.

Great screencap or greatest screencap?
WOWWWWWWW
[TW for racial slurs] Good commentary below:
This picture perfectly sums up my problem with feminism.
“I’ve been informed that one of the (Black) women SlutWalk NYC organizers asked the woman to take her placard down. She did. However, not before there were many photographs taken….
Now, my question is why did it take a Black woman organizer to ask her to take it down. What about ALL of the White women captured in this photograph. They didn’t find this sign offensive? Paraphrasing Sojourner Truth “Ain’t I A Woman (too!)?”
ERADICATING RACISM SHOULD NOT BE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF PEOPLE OF COLOR.How can so many White feminists be absolutely clear about the responsibility of ALL MEN TO END heterosexual violence perpetrated against women; and yet turn a blind eye to THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO END racism.
Is Sisterhood Global? This picture says NO! very loudly and very clearly.”- Aishah Shahidah Simmons
You are not a nigger. You will never be called a nigger. You will never be treated like a nigger. You cannot reclaim a word that was never utilised against you.
So get the fuck out and shut the fuck up.
Oh my god it’s a fucking John Lennon song. Get over yourself. Try giving it a listen, then you’ll see that it’s actually very fucked up that they asked her to take it down. For Christ’s sake, there’s even a little CARTOON OF JOHN LENNON ON THE FUCKING SIGN. Here are the lyrics in case you’re interested:
Woman is the nigger of
the world
Yes she is…think about it
Woman is the nigger of
the world
Think about it…do
something about itWe make her paint her
face and dance
If she won’t be slave ,we
say that she don’t love us
If she’s real, we say she’s
trying to be a man
While putting her down we
pretend that she is above us
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Ah yeah…better screem
about it
We make her bear and raise
our children
And then we leave her flat for
being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only
place she would be
Then we complain that she’s
too unworldly to be our friend
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Yeah (think about it)We insult her everyday on TV
And wonder why she has no
guts or confidence
When she’s young we kill her
will to be free
While telling her not to be so
smart we put her down for being so dumb
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Yes she is…if you belive me,
you better screem about it.Repeat:
We make her paint her
face and dance
We make her paint her
face and dance We make her paint her
face and dance-John Winston Ono FUCKING Lennon
I rest my case.
I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE FUCK THE QUOTE HAS COME FROM.
I don’t give a damn what Yoko and John’s intent was with the song. I don’t give a damn that they wrote it that it was to show solidarity with “the struggle.” They didn’t ask any *black women* what they thought of their usage of the word to get their point across about the oppression of women, and they should’ve been the first person asked.
How fucking dare you tell me to get over myself?
Black feminist and Woman of colour have spoken about the offence with the use of the N word within feminist communities, and we are told be quiet because you don’t want to check your white privilege.
NEWSFLASH: YOU ARE NOT BLACK. YOU DO NOT GET TO RECLAIM A WORD THAT WAS NEVER USED TO OPRESS YOU.
You will never have the fucking license to use this word. I literally give two shits about the amount of “black friends” you have, or the fact some members of the black community use this term, or if its a John Lennon song.
IT IS STILL RACISM.
I’M SO SICK OF THIS SHITTY SO CALLED “ALLYS” WHO DEMAND WE BE SILENT BECAUSE THEY DON’T FEEL COMFORTBLE CHECKING THEIR WHITE PRIVLEGE.
YOU KNOW WHAT IS ACTUALLY FUCKED UP? The fact that you refuse to listen to the countless WOC who have told you the problem with this fuckign sign, and casually using racial slurs.
I do not, for example, do not adopt an anti-gay slur. Those kind of words have never been used agaisn’t me to threaten me, to opress me, TO SILENCE ME. I never have to labor underneath their weight.
White women have no relationship with the word nigger. It has NEVER been used agaisn’t them.
The song is fucked up, because if this white women is a nigger of the world, AM I A DOUBLE NIGGER?
Think before you speak. By using a word that has caused pain and harm to a specific group of people of which you are not a part, you are perpetuating the pain and harm to that specific group of people of which you are not a part.
GENDER OPRESSION DOESN’T SUDDENLY EXCLUDE YOUR RACIAL PRIVILEGE.
Whoa, lady. I’ve checked my white privilege MULTIPLE times. As a third year Women’s Studies major, I’ve spent pretty much that entire time doing nothing BUT checking my white privilege. For you to assume that I’m just “some ally” speaks volumes about how vicious you’re being. I know my shit, and I never claimed to be black.
The fact of the matter is that, in our patriarchal white-dominated society, a definition of the word “nigger” has arisen, COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM ANY RACIAL CONNOTATIONS. When the average person hears that word, they think multiple things, among them: (not always) of African descent, lower-income, uneducated, violent, crime-prone, general “troublemakers”, etc. Minus the racial aspect of it, YOU HAVE EVERY FUCKING PATRIARCH’S DEFINITION OF A FUCKING WOMAN.
Yes, it’s still a racist slur. No, I do not use it in my everyday vocabulary. Does that mean that I’m going to have a fucking shit fit if someone takes artistic license and uses it in a song? FUCK NO.
John Lennon took that term and flipped it. He was using the lens of racism to make clearer the general struggle between women and men. Let’s face it: in the 70’s, who wasn’t fucking acquainted with the notion of racism? It was pretty much the heart of the radical WOC movement. At the same time, however, not everybody was as aware of feminist struggles as they were with issues of racism. So, he took the common term (which was condoned by Bobby fucking Seale, but NO BIG DEAL) and used it to give a light to the uncommon problem.
Honestly, you’re complaining about a man who was being monitored by the FBI for having connections to the Black Panther Party. Have fun with that.
Woah. Did you really just tell someone with a completely valid critique about your bullshit response that you are exempt from critique for it because you are a women’s studies major? Women’s studies doesn’t emphasize race all the time, trust me. And wtf? All black people should be bowing down to John Lennon because he did a few things with the black panthers. Did you just fucking tell black women that, you silly white lady? Are you serious? And you checked your privilege? You actually make me more sick than the real overt racists who use the n word in the way it actually means and they know the way it has always been used. Not these cowardly people like you who hide behind the truth and obscure it will bullshit.
I swear to god, you are fucking ridiculous. You exist in such a privileged world you really know people who say that the n word exists outside of a racial connotation. Talk about disconnect. I really doubt many people think anything but about black people when they hear the n word and just cause you say so doesn’t make it so. Bobby Seale isn’t a black woman and neither is John Lennon. In the 70s everyone knew what the n word was and it wasn’t short term for woman. White women like you will never be the niggers of the world and you can take that arrogant shit somewhere. Really. I am pissed as hell, you really are the ultimate piece of shit I can’t stand when I read shit like this.
in response to chadgolightly:
here I’m going to tell you as a white person what the n word means to me than listen to others who have actually been oppressed by it! WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M A BAD FEMINIST?!?!?!?!?!
Song or not, it is racist. It doesn’t matter how, ‘Artistically,’ it is being used. Historically that word has been used by white people to oppress. It is not something we defend. If someone calls you out for being oppressive, it doesn’t matter that you think you’re not being oppressive, it matters that that person felt oppressed, and the minute that happens you should stop, and take a good look at your behaviour because you’re obviously doing something wrong.
FYC: It was racist when the song writer wrote it and it’s racist to quote it now.
